The gaming giant that is Call of duty has been on top of the first person shooter genre ever since call of duty Modern Warfare swept the world when it was first released all the way back in 2007. It was the first time that a call of duty conflict was today's world. With its wildly popular success it cranked out two more sequels lazily named Call of Duty Modern warfare 2 and 3. In between those games were Call of Duty world at war set in World War Two and Call of Duty Black Ops set in the Cold war. Recently announced a new call of duty game that would still take place in the Modern Age. This is where I began to seriously doubt whether or not I would get another call of Duty game. Everything has already been done in today’s world. I accepted the fact that they needed to wrap things up with COD MOD 3. The fact they went futuristic in Black ops 2 was a change. My question is: where do they go now?
The answer I and I amsure millions of other gamers would love to see as well, is back to the era where it all began for Call of Duty: World War Two. Think about it. We haven’t had a world war two era call of duty game since world at war came out in 2008. World war two games used to be a dime a dozen back in the day I’m not saying that it wasn’t a smart move for the franchise to move forward. It made them a household name around the globe. I think they missed an opportunity to deliver something fresh, new, and innovative to a stale franchise. Call of Duty’s next title named Ghosts is reportedly sporting a new game engine, something that fans have been rioting for ever since rival competitor Battlefield showcased their Frostbite 2 Engine. The Call of Duty games up to this point have been running on a tweaked Call of duty 4 Engine. With all the millions of dollars these games rake in every year one would think a new game engine would have come sooner.
With the outstanding support for the Call of Duty world at war character Sargent Reznov, voiced by Gary “The Chameleon” old man why doesn’t the next Call of Duty title give his back story? To be able to witness the city of Stalingrad in its golden age near the start of the game then slowly watch as it crumbles as wave after wave of German bombers let drop their payloads on the city. To be able to see the training that he had to go through the scout sniper missions he had to endure and at the end of the game have him desperately take cover after a mission goes horribly wrong. Only to end up in a square playing dead so not to get killed by the German patrol. Which is where in Call of duty world at war you first meet Sargent Reznov. I think the next Call of Duty game that Treyarch makes should go back to World War Two. Back to their roots. Sounds like Someone should give the Call of duty franchise a call. A call back home.
